A composite laminate is a perfectly bonded assembly of individual plies of a unidirectional composite for which the fibers in each ply are parallel in a direction that defines the orientation of the ply within the laminate (Figure 1 shows a cross-ply laminate having separated the individual plies). Various methods have been used to develop an understanding of damage growth in such laminates.
